Welcome to the on-line home of the Mobile Rock & Gem Society!
MRGS is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization located in Mobile, Alabama dedicated to stimulating interest in earth sciences and supporting the education of geology, mineralogy, lapidary arts, and related subjects.
Membership is open to anyone age seven and up who is interested in Geology, Lapidary, Mineralogy, Paleontology, Fossils or other related Earth Sciences. We also have an Annual Rock & Gem Show.
The Society meets at our Clubhouse at 1324 Forest Dell Road off Moffet Road (Hwy 98) in Mobile, Alabama (next door to Forest Hill Elementary School). We meet on the 2nd Tuesday of every month at 7:00 pm. There are usually other things going on besides the monthly meeting...see what is happening on our Events page. Guests are always welcome to visit us and see what we are all about.
The typical meeting begins with program or guest speaker (about 30 minutes). Then we have a short break to sample snacks and socialize. Next, we move on the some club business (officer and committee reports), and any new business (like introducing new members and guests, upcoming events and field trips, etc.). After that there is "show and tell" before adjourning the meeting. We try to keep the business portion of the meeting as brief as possible.
After the meeting ends, we start the silent auction and have refreshments and socialize. At this time everyone has the opportunity to ask questions, tell stories, discuss upcoming events or possible activities and make new friends.
Mobile Rock & Gem Society is a member of the American Federation of Mineral Societies and the Southeastern Federation of Mineralogical Societies.
